Film Producing 101 Panel

A moderated panel focused on the brass tacks of producing a film project.  Topics include budgeting, scheduling, fundraising, organizational strategies and an overview of concepts.  Through presentations and discussion, experts in the field give attendees a solid picture of the needs, issues, challenges, and tactics to effectively plan and produce a small film project. Panelists: Caterina Bartha Caterina Barhta is a management and producing consultant with over fifteen years of experience in the performing arts. She is currently an independent accountant working with small business and non-profits. From 2008-2009 she served as Executive Director for Doug Varone and Dancers. She is a charter member of the Arts Leadership Institute and holds an MBA in Media Management.  From 2003 – 2008 she served as Company Director for Bebe Miller Company, producing critically acclaimed and Bessie award winningLanding/Place (2005). She worked with Jane Comfort and Company for fourteen years producing multiple evening length shows including, Persephone (2004) at the Joyce Theater, Asphalt (1999) at the Ohio Theater, and Bessie award winner Underground River (1996). She is a co-founding member of Collective: Unconscious. As an independent producer she has presented the work of critically acclaimed performance artists Karen Finley (George & Martha, 2004) and Annie Sprinkle (Love, Sex, Death and Art, 2007), as well as the Lower West Side Film Festival (2005), the Collective for Loving Cinema Series (2008) and is the founding producer of the undergroundzero theater festival. She has worked as a producing consultant with DD Dorvillier, Cathy Weis Projects, Nina Winthrop and Dancers, John Jasperse Company, Bill Young and Dancers, Anahi Galante, and Robbin Tribble, among others.  In the past. she has served on PS 122′s Artists Advisory Committee and was board co-chair of New Dance Alliance from 2001-2003. Anita Tovich Anita Tovich is an Emmy Award winning, Peabody Award winning producer, director and writer for film and television for over 18 years.  She has created documentaries for NBC, CBS, Nickelodeon, Lifetime, and MSNBC among other networks.  Currently she is co-producing a documentary in China entitled “RMB: The People’s Money” about American-Chinese political and monetary relationship. Jason Orans Jason Orans’ most recent feature, NIGHT CATCHES US, premiered in the Dramatic Competition at Sundance 2010, and was nominated for Gotham, Spirit and Image Awards. His 2009 theatrical releases were DARE starring Emmy Rossum and Alan Cumming, and Ramin Bahrani’s GOODBYE SOLO, winner of the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize at Venice, and a Gotham and Spirit Award nominee. He is currently in production on new feature documentaries from Margaret Brown (THE ORDER OF MYTHS) and Bahrani. Other notable films include FLANNEL PAJAMAS and YEAR OF THE FISH both Sundance premieres. Orans was nominated for the 2009 Independent Spirit Producers Award and was nominated again for the Spirit Award in 2011, as well as for the 2011 NAACP Image Award.
