Two Case Studies- Gabrielle Lansner and Greg Vander Veer

A panel discussion looking at two distinct case studies featuring Gabrielle Lansner and Greg Vander Veer, focusing on creating projects from beginning to end. Two expert panelists give a step-by-step overview of their respective processes from conception to creation to distribution. Topics will include: conception, strategizing, fundraising, will touch on both “non-commercial” and “for hire” models, Kickstarter, marketing and distribution. Gabrielle  Lansner Gabrielle’s creative work has crossed interdisciplinary boundaries, moving from pure dance works to dance/theater pieces to film and musical theatre. Lansner has recently shifted focus to filmmaking as a new way to create her work. Her first short films, Dad and wishing…, have screened in the US, as well as internationally. DAD, won the Award of Merit for Experimental Film/Accolade Competition in La Jolla, CA. Her current film THE STRONGER was just premiered at the Cannes Short Film Corner. In 1997, Lansner formed gabrielle lansner & company and has created eight full-length works that have performed to critical acclaim: “Lansner has a gift for creating vivid dramatic landscapes out of an almost seamless merging of text and movement.” – The New York Times. The work has been produced in NYC at The Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Playwrights Horizons, The Duke on 42nd Street, Walkerspace, HERE, New York Theater Workshop, The Joyce Soho, The Ohio Theater, The 92nd Street Y, Movement Research at the Judson Church and has toured to Toronto, Massachusetts and Connecticut, among others. TURNING HEADS a site-specific dance performed at Battery Park City, was produced by Sitelines 2009/LMCC. Greg Vander Veer Greg Vander Veer is a documentary filmmaker and  video contributor of IndexMagazine.com.  Recently, he directed and photographed the documentary film Keep Dancing, about the legendary dancers Marge Champion and Donald Saddler. The film was an Official Selection at over 20 international film festivals including SXSW, SilverDocs and DocuWeeks, and was nominated by the International Documentary Association (IDA) for the 2010 Distinguished Short Documentary Award. Greg is now directing a feature documentary film in post-production about Martha Hill, a pioneer and visionary in the field of Modern Dance. He is also producing and directing the film Church Forest. In 2012, Greg directed a feature documentary film , Another Tour, about a New York based modern dance company as they toured through Peru. He also has served cameraman on several projects with  filmmaker, Albert Maysles.
